Noob Question..MTB on road

Won't make the no legs mistake again! If anything for the very short term they will probably be the focus of the majority of work.

Oly lifting suits me just fine right now because of the obvious benefits to my engine as well strength and burning fat.If things go to plan i will end up with a mix of PL and Oly.
Lucky that i can do all the above at home, safe to say if i was in a gym then the temptation of competetion would come up, and that's not really a path i want to take- sure it would be great to beat others but not at what the majority of people with decent numbers have to do to achieve it

Overhead squats totally rule btw :D They work more muscles than i care to remember and will probably have a positive effect on nearly every other lift

Well people say the same for deadlifts and squats, too.

As I said, I'm divided over them - they are unquestionably high risk, and there is some degree of retardedness about them, but on the other hand there is a distinct skill, if you're injury free (albeit not the best way to stay injury free), and are lucky to not have any shoulder injuries (rare in people when they get to a certain age, especially if they have habitually lifted weights) they can be a very challenging lift.

Personally, my view is they're good as a technique thing, but inferior to back squats as a lower body exercise, inferior to many of the overhead lifts for upper body work. But good if you wanna be good at overhead squats.

Just squat instead, you know it makes sense ;-)

I will do normal squats as well (both front and back)

Overheads i will try and build up over time to 60-70kg and no more

Fronts again aim to build up to 100kg and back 150kg, then of course i begin to get curious about what numbers i could put together
Just to be clear my aim for all this is to lose bodyfat and perform better on the bike, these i believe are the quickest ways to achieve my goals while staying healthy

Why the variation, then?

If reducing bodyfat is the aim, I think you're overthinking. Simple and brief, keeping the weight used at a respective end. All that variation between the 3 types of squats is going to do is dilute your ideal working weight on back squats.

That whole variation / confusion thing is a sham, concentrate on the best lift, don't go overboard on the weight, but aim for something challenging, and remember that natural athletes can't train like assisted ones, especially when trying to lose bodyfat.

Good luck getting back into shape.

Some roadies are indeed cocks much like some mountain bikers are cocks and some people who don't ride bikes are cocks. It's a sweeping generalisation I find really tiresome.

Anyhow the mtb will be fine on the road. Slicks will make things a little more enjoyable and easier for you. A road bike is indeed better on the road - which sin't to say a mtb isn't perfectly fine though.

As for riding with groups (which others have talked about) if that's an avenue you wish to follow suggest you speak to a local club (check the BCF website). Most clubs will be happy to chat and advise which rides would be best suited to you. We have loads of rides with our local road club suiting everyone from utter never ridden a bike beginners to elite racers. If on the other hand you decide to roll up to the local chaingang and try and get round don't be surprised if you get dropped or even some stick. I've done races easier than some of our local chaingangs.
