Funny thing is - the only Biomegas I ever saw in Copenhagen when I lived there, were all inside the offices of architects and designers which I visited when I was a bike courier for a bit.

Very upmarket bikes, well thought out from a design point of view but not terribly practical or self-maintenance friendly despite what the sales pitch says. Shaft drives are at least as problematic as chains (changing a tube is a nightmare and the interface does need to be greased and cleaned). But it's true you don't get your suit trousers so oily.
 
You also get losses with the bevel gears about the same as a rusty derailleur setup (around 10% lost). Clean derailleur gears are around 2% loss.
