New toy...picked a Booger!

Just picked up a Hooger-Booger 'Patrol' trials bike off the local Craigslist for a whopping US$75. Did some searches here and found a few tidbits. It actually seems fairly well made...nice(ish) welds, decent tubing, gussets, integrated bash guard, light enough. A bit beat up, but quality bits and perfectly functional as is.

Tange MTB cromo e-stay frame/fork (paint knackered, some surface rust), XC Pro drivetrain, American Classic hubs w/Sun CR20 rims (look new!), Maggie HS11 brakes (rock solid).

Needs some love, then some thrashin'! Hey, it's a trials bike.

Moots Ti seatpost?

now that would be something! unfortunately, my karma's not that good...unbranded cromo, end is cut at an angle (like a quill stem), 3 large holes in the long (front side), one on the back. stamped 'YC'...perhaps that boutique manufacturer, Yeng Chen (sp?)?

i've just finished disassembly and assessment...no real worries. BB & head tube/steerer are rust-free! non-drive BB cup is slightly stripped (tool interface, not threads) & seized. i'll have the LBS extract it and chase the threads shortly, as i don't want to bugger it further. also, freewheel appears seized to the hub. again, we'll see what the LBS can do.

1-1/8" threaded steerer, 135mm rear spacing. cleaned up nicely. goal is to spend virtually nothing further and have a interesting and enjoyable play bike for urban assault. needs a BB, possibly a crank, little else...

really? the reading i've done here tells me HB was a Scott sub-brand known for solid but mid-grade product. do you remember where you saw this review?

the folks over at observedtrials.net are calling it an XC bike. guess trials designs have changed significantly?
