New member, new problem?

Hi there,

Although i've been a cyclist for many years my tyres have usually been wider and more knobbly.

Recently as the riding is a struggle i've decided more building/rebuilding is in order.

I picked up a project that is taking shape nicely.
It started as a 1980's gitane (still is i guess) but it was broke, incomplete and unfinished.
I've got to the forks, they looked chrome until i tried to clean them, it came off very easily.
The frame came painted in a celeste blue, no idea exactly what code but i'd struggle to replicate it i think.
I've tried spraying the forks with a chrome paint, it wasn't great.
Has anybody used paint with any decent effect?
I think actual chroming is cost prohibitive, any suggestions greatly appreciated!

I would be worried it wasn't a Gitane if the forks were chrome painted. Some Chromers charge a minimum fee for chroming. Not interested in one off's. Find someone that will. I use a guy in Hayes and he's happy to do small parts. Forks £20-30 so not outrageous. Post some pictures up or your frame and forks.

The frame has gitane stickers and vitus tubing stickers. I cant see the paint being genuine though.
The forks are in the mess of parts, the old "chrome" can be seen. this was after some light brasso work..

Some powder coater do chrome effects although a good one will need to go easy on the lacquer or it goes grey. Could be a cheap option if rattle can doesn't work and proper chroming is out of budget.
