Crank Brothers make nice cartridge ISIS BB's and they're less than £40 with Merlin cycles.
I've had a few of Shimano's and they did'nt last long at all.
Just out of interest is it possible to fix an old Ti Hope BB? Got one that came with my Pace. The previous owner said the bearings have gone. :?:

I have the instructions for mine, which i think tells you what to do...ie buy their own bearing puller and push some new ones on :)
So yes you can.

Mike,

You are so close to the truth it's scary.

Industry players have already committed to the new BB30 bottom bracket for wide spread release in 2010.

Most of the big names are on board, they just are not advertising it as they have loads of stock to reduce before bringing this open design to the masses.

You are right...what once was old is new again 8)

no ones mentioned it, so I will :)
does anyone else notice the difference between square taper & thru axle BB/cranks? as a recent user to thru axle I gotta say i;m impressed by the increased stiffness, deffo noticeable in out of the saddle big gear attacks on steep hills :)

i'd heard rumblings via the grapevine but no confirmed dates. isnt it true that shimano only adopted thru-axle when the bullseye license had expired? maybe thats why the current bottom brackets are so throw away! they're just biding there time till BB30  http://www.bb30standard.com/

with cranks like the M970 you can tighten to reduce the chance of any side impacts smacking the chainset out of alignment (IE thru the frame), which I assume will be carried on with BB30. certainly from my old klein days of press fit BBs that was my only real complaint... obviously BB30 & press fit are closely related, but not identical :)

not related to BBs, just interesting to see which direction the bigger brands want to take. but i've heard a few more companies are considering doing the extended seattube thing ala scott, yeti ASRc, trek madone etc. personally i dont think this will be as widely accepted by the public.
i'll have to blag a yeti ASRc at the tribemeet to see if theres any noticeable difference :)
