New F1 Rules.

Interesting points, especially regarding Diesels at Le Mans. I'm not a fan of the diesels because they don't sound like a race car. They are devastatingly fast though. And as for being green? Someone released some stats about the winning car at Le Mans this year (Diesel Audi R15+).

I cannot remember the exact figures but compared to the winning Petrol Audi of five years ago, this years car broke the distance record, fastest average speed, used around 12% less fuel and used up a third less tyres. So further, faster, more efficient, more reliable.

This technology is already filtering down to road cars making motoring more green. That has to be a step forward no matter how much you dislike motor cars.

I hear you, but the pollution from diesels is so much worse than from petrol. Surprised about the tyre performance, give the characteristics of tuned diesels!

Talking to a guy 'in-the-know' at Pirelli the other day and he said they will see 4 pit stops per race at the hotter race venues to mix it up for the spectators.

I fear it won't be enough.

KERS might help - that's back, isn't it?

I think dropping the refuelling is a mistake for the viewer. Weight and fuel economy is making it more about saving fuel and driving around heavier cars - which hardly appears to add to any spectacle.

Probably one of the reasons I lost interest in CART / Champ cars, some years back, was the whole fuel economy, trying to save a pitstop thing. It may be very clever, it may involve lots of furious calculations, but how did they ever think it would evolve into being good for the spectacle?

F1 racing? boring! no overtaking, races won on pit stop times. zzzzzzz............

Couldn't agree more. Been sanitised and boring for years.

Moto GP and Superbikes is much more exciting - at least there's overtaking and paint swapping, and competitors with personalities!

I heard this too - the pirelli tires are designed to not last the distance, should be an interesting (for F1!) season
