NEW BIKE PRICES !!! I KNOW I KNOW

I know this is a reg gripe, but just looking at the new 2011 Scott range for instance, plenty of £4,000-£7,000 bikes inc the two to three grand ones.........so a quick scan through to see what you get for about £900 ALIVIO !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think this 'raw materials' have gone up is a right smoke screen for these prices...........I believe what is really happining is, the marketing bods have said, hey look how popular bikes have become again, and all these extra groups of people now getting involved, we should see if we can appeal to the rich ( and stupid ) of these groups...........like with top end cars and motor bikes etc etc...........and if they bite we'll just keep sticking a grand on here and there to see how far we can take it !...........I'm ex bike trade and have seen some of this stuff and I'm not impressed :roll:

Have a look at the Cube range, their specs went UP for 2011...

Don't like the way manufacturers mix groups now..okay, so you get an XT rear mech on a bike but the rest is crap.

The MTB market is full of middle aged people with lots of disposable income so I do agree to some extent that the marketing of MTBs and related products is tailored towards these riders.

Specialized are also offering better value for money than last year in countries where VAT isn't going up!

Kona's road bikes offer excellent value, but they are building their brand in that category, in the main I agree...prices are rising fast.

A Spesh Langster cost £349 new four years ago, they are over £500 in most cases now, for the same bike.
In fact, single speed prices make me wince now, considering they are stripped of components.

Yup, their prices have stayed roughly the same as last year too, some bikes have come down in price & some have gone up, but but by that much in comparison to other manufacturers

Just fashion though isn't it....manufacturers know they can fleece people with SS bikes now.
