Re:

This picture may help. Hard to find those brakes. I would suggest brakes that do use those holes. Other members may have the correct brakes or suggestions.

Re:

Yes indeed it is a conundrum you can get brakes that don't use the holes such as some Dia-compe and Suntour models that have a separate adjusting nut on the rear :?

do you know which model of suntour or dia compe?? Raleigh delivered the bike with XT I think, so shimano cantilevers...

Re:

Dia-compe 986/7 and Suntour XC pro/expert off the top of my head. Yes it was Shimano equipped but seems something very weird going on with it to me :(

Re:

The easiest way is to use these parts

canti-bosses.jpg

..so you can use any Cantis.

Avid tri aligns will work to. They don't use the rear holes for tension. Ii would assume a lot of the clones would do the same.

Re:

Another suggestion. AVID with the springs in the front of the arms. There are several other cheaper brands.
Good luck.

The plates that fit over like the bosses like marzocchi, use might be utilized :? The square section on the boss holds it in normally. Might be able to turn them around to face inward :?
