Hello guys,

I'm new to this subsection of retrobikes (still looking to cross over from mountain bikes) and recently as I was browsing the web I found this interesting looking bike for sale locally. It's simply advertised as an italian road bike although having done some searching I came to the conclusion that it might be a Colnago. There are only two low res pictures provided, from which the down tube decal can clearly be made out and it says "De Vlaeminck" as in Roger De Vlaeminck. Sounds like it might be something cool if it's authentic, although I'm sceptical.

I contacted the seller for more information and he told me he'd bought the bike a few years ago from Germany. He said he'd talked to some bike expert who thought it might have been a Colnago-made special for a bike shop or something. It lacks all the regular Colnago cloverleaf markings on the frame except for the stickers. As for the spec the bar is 3TTT, the stem is Cinelli, the BB, rear hub and headset says "Campangnolo" and the shifters are 9sp. Campagnolo Mirage. Nothing's mentioned about the rims.

He's asking 350€ for it but I feel it's way too much for such an oddball... What do you guys think?

You need detailed photos of the underneath of the BB, the Fork Crown, the Seat Stays where they join the top tube, the head lugs & the rear gear side drop out, to see if its a genuine Colnago.

The Roger De Vlaeminck Colnago is indeed a very collectible and valuable bike but this does not appear to be one. The authentic bike would have "rdv" engraved in the seat stay cap and have the club cut out in the head lug.

There's a lug for the number. Could be a quality frame, even it is possibly not a Colnago. Locally, I would have a closer look.
