My dilemma...

Not sure if I've just woken up grumpy or whether I mean this.

I bought a P7 from here hoping it would be ready to ride, so far, all I've done is spent a week trying to strip it and buy new parts as it was unridable.

I'm fed up with trying to get cranks off, drill out bolts and cleaning stuff whilst looking for appropriately aged parts to put back on.

Am I better off giving up on this as a project and selling all the parts (that are any good) on here or, will the satisfaction of completing it make me an altogether happier person.

The harder it is to complete the more satisfaction you'll get out of it when it's finished. Keep going mate, that's the fun of retro bikes!

My LTS, although not quite finished, gives me a warm fuzzy feeling each time I see it in the shed. I'm sure that's predominantly down to the hours spent wrestling bent bolts out, dousing it in degreaser, replacing hundreds of bits and generally fettling. My other bike barely gets a look-in now, despite it being the one that's actually rideable! Definitely stick with it - the LTS build has taught me that every problem is solvable with enough determination / brute force / patience, and you'll soon forget the pain and anguish.

I'm in a similar position, although mine is at least rideable. In my mind's eye my F7 looks like something it currently isn't, and while I want to strip it down and get all the parts I want to put on it, the thrill of riding it is better than anything else.

I guess what I'm saying is percevere with the build, because the joy is in the riding... If you can't find the 29.4mm seat pin that you want put anything in until you do, but get on it and ride!

Good luck
Adam

That's what is getting on my tits.
I just want to ride it.

It's in the bath, by jove it's making a mess...

I think the stripping down is the scary bit - almost looks worse before it gets better if you know what I mean.

I'm sure the clean up job will be worthwhile - hope you've got a good claener for the bath as well!

Like other posters said - think of the satisfaction of seeing it rebuilt!

In what way was the P7 unridable Xioly, if you don't mind me asking?

I personally wouldn't worry too much about putting period correct bits on, I don't really. As long as it 'looks' right and you're happy with it you're winning

You know when you get on your mates bike and he's not set it up to suit you (why would he, we are all different)?

You know when brakes are spongey and gears don't shift as you'd like.

You know when cables get grungy and fray at the ends..

The main thing was the headset - that needed attention but the above also needed sorting..
