I have a red and silver one of these, a bit older as it doesn't have disc brake fittings. It is my ugly town bike, carries all manner of crap, pulls trailers, kiddy seats.

Got it free out of a garden and used the frame to replace a beloved old steel Marin Muirwoods that snapped. So it has old Marin bits, racks, weird handlebars, locks hanging off.

It is amazingly stiff and efficient. I suspect your build is more respecting of its potential as a proper mtb.

I did the same, bought a cheap 1, just to ride around and surprised how well it rode, so then started to upgrade etc
