More gearing choice questions

Very nice, I actually have some 8 speed veloce levers hanging around. What rear mech are you using?

Thanks! This particular one is a Shimano Light Action I happened to have in my parts bin at the time, but any Shimano SIS rear derailleur will do.

BTW, I noticed a mistake in my previous post: the levers are actually old 9-speed Chorus. However, a similar result can be achieved with 8-speed Campag and a 5 or 6-speed rear cluster:

8 speed Campag levers, a pre-2001 Campag rear mech and it shifts (as designed) a 5.0mm pitch gear: Shimano 7 or Campag 7 or 8. Campag didn't change the pitch for 8 speed.
