Montage rebuild

Devout Dirtbag
After doing a 150ish mile camping trip over 3 days on the Montage, virtually every bearing had started complaining and on my daily cycle it was making so many noises that I genuinely felt sorry for the bike.

So i brought it home and began taking it apart. It's going to either be sand blasted or acid dipped (dip preferably, every nook and cranny) and re-sprayed, the oval chainrings are going to be replaced, it's going back to cantis, and it's being treated to new forks, headset bearings sealed the fate for those ones :( though they were Raleigh standard issue heavy-as-you-like jobs! Anybody who's selling forks- let me know. Anything considered. As long as they fit!

Wheels are also going to be trued (don't want to part with my lovely 91 alesa rims!

The original Suntour gearing is staying:) but being overhauled.

Now comes the big problem- decals.

Who/where?!

Pics will be up as soon as i can
Not enjoying being without a bike but there we are.
Cheers

The stickers should'nt be a big problem as long as you are not after genuine ones, take some pics and dimentions of the ones on it before you strip the frame, use this as a reference for reproductions, your local sign maker/screen printer should be able to knock them up for you cheaply.

For the forks have a look in the for sale section on here, again use your existing forks as a referance for the steerer size, length and type (threaded or plain)

The dent, depends on how bad it is but if it's a smallish dent not affecting the strength or straightness of the frame in any way some car body filler could be used to fill it in before the respray.

Glad you are doing it justice! 8)

keep us posted, and we'll help advise where poss.

Is it too rough just to clean and not repaint?
