Modernish bike, 17-18" hardtail, £350-400 to spend.

Wanted - need a modernish bike, hard tail, 17-18" frame with front suspension. Dont know a lot about bikes and a mate asked me to post it on here, just want a lightweight bike really. Probably want to spend £350-400.

If he wants brand new, Carrera Kraken from Halfords (although the service in some halfords leaves a bit to be desired, so some fettling may be required) it's one of the best £400 bikes on the market spec wise, the forks have damping & lockout, the drivetrain is Sram X7/X5 & Tektro hydraulic disc brakes, pretty damn good for £400.
