Hi Kaz ,

I don't know if the Deore 34.9 front mech, top or bottom pull will fit my Raleigh if the old one i've got hidden in the shed won't so how do i go about checking it and does the 34.9 refer to the sprocket sizes on the cassette and if it will fit then is their a chance you can hold onto it for a short while please .

34.9 (mm) refers to the mounting clamp diameter. This needs to be matched to your seat tube. There are reducer shims available to make this FD fit on a smaller diameter seat tube. As for cable pull - it supports both, so it doesn't matter which side your cable comes from.

Thanks cybernck and i've just checked my seat tube which appears to be 28.6 so i've got a feeling my old front derailluer should fit but will confirm later ..
