Minimum seatpost insert on a Klein

I have just noticed that there are 2 threads already about this brand in the first few threads.

I need some "accurate" information regarding the minimum amount of seatpost in a 91 Klein. This is the one with the larger extension of the seat tube.

The reason for this is that I have replaced the seatpost from a modern control tech which was well in the region of 400mm to an old Suntour XC pro (much shorter). I am thinking I am on the limit with the amount of depth (fnarfnar).

I have 110mm-ish in at the moment.

Does anyone know the official amount. It may be written in an old manual.

Cheers,
A

i am unsure of 'official' advice but i comment as a 15 stone attitude owner.......i set my bike up with a shimmed use ti post but took one look and thought better of it........i now run a syncros that sits 10mm short of the bottle cage bolt on the seat tube and have no problems......i would say at least 6 inches past the top tube seat stay area.......minimum!........are you a racing snake or a fatty like me?

I've always reckoned that if post reaches at least 2" below the underside of the top tube at the join with the seat tube then reducing leverage sufficiently to be OK.

But then I'm <9st!

Thanks for the advice.

I am still unsure what the official information is. Some suggestions seem a little excessive.

If anyone has the information from a manual I would feel happier from this.

In addition then. Has anyone extended / modified a seatpost? I want the look of the Suntour but would be happier withe extra length!?!?

Ideas and solid information would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
A
