Mercian (probably)

And

Dirt Disciple
Hello all,

I bought this bike complete several years ago and it was sold to me as a Mercian, but it was hand painted so original paint/transfers were obscured. Being smart, I didn't check on the frame number when I picked it up and when I looked for it in usual Mercian place on the bb shell, there were markings but they were not legible due to damage (I know it sounds dodgy). Anyway, I took it to Mercian for an opinion, and they told me it could very well be one of theirs as the frame is constructed in the same manner with pegged lugs. As you can see, they were quite happy to paint it and put their name to it. I don't know the material; Mercian stated it 'felt' like 531!

In addition, it had a ‘Mercian’ headset fitted which according to the shop were contemporary fitments. I did not re-fit this due to the poor condition.

I do know that it has Campag dropouts on the forks (can't see on the rear), vertical rear dropouts, Cinelli bb housing casting, shot in rear stays and an excellent paint job. There are no fitments for mudguards.

All that said, obviously I cannot guarantee the provenance of the frame.

All the running gear, apart from the modern headset and seatpost, came with the bike. It has Campagnolo Chorus 8 speed ergo shifters and group set in good (but not new) condition, Campag large flange record hubs on Mavic MA 2's, 172.5 cranks (53/42 chainset) and 3ttt stem and bars.

The seat tube is 60 cm centre to centre, top tube 57 centre to centre. Included is the original Campagnolo seatpost (poor condition).

I am looking for about £325. I’m not relay comfortable selling this bike without someone viewing first, and I’d rather not post as I want to avoid damage.

If you’re interested, either send a PM or e-mail; kianga87(at)hotmail.co.uk. I am based near Matlock, Derbyshire. More photos available on request.

And.

Bump and price reduction.
