Mavic rear mechs question.

I'm buying bits for a non-internet friend and Mavic mechs look NICE. Question is; will the rear index with 9 speed STIs?

Depends which one .

I have just bought a set of front and rear road models , with black body .
I plan to use them on a MTB but with 8 speed .

But as the spacing is the same on a 8 and 9 seed cassette , I cant see why not .

As long as it's the more modern one, not the old straight parallel one then it'll be fine. I'm using one on 9 speed at the moment

Question from the low IQ seats; For 9 speed compatibility ( Shimano STIs ) what model numbers are we talking and/or do you have pics of what to look for?

You want something like an 840, but not the older 801 if that helps!
