Matsushita National Super Road, dump find! (Updated)

ElCani

Devout Dirtbag
Literally pulled this out of the metal recycling skip at the local dump. Was told off (this is Sweden) but then the woman said she was going to “look to the sky”, so I took it.

Incredible condition, near-mint. The tubs are rotten (but still hold air) everything else appears golden. Full Shimano 600 Arabesque groupset, Araya rims, weird striped Selle Italia Turbo saddle. Frame sticker says double-butted 4130 cromo.

Some research reveals Matsushita was a Panasonic brand from around the mid eighties.

I thought these finds only happened to other people! Shame it’s way too small for me...

Nice save

What’s your plans for it - if it’s sadly to small

Great find!

Matsushita is the name of the parent company: Panasonic, National (and Technics) are their brands.

Cheers for the info!

Plans are to stick some tyres on, clean it up (doesn’t need much) and sell it, I suppose. Always hard to let them go though...

Bio Turbo saddle & quite rare....
That’s a great find & wish I could go to a dump & find that kind of thing :)

Way too small? You must be very tall.

Lovely bike and an amazing find- glad you got it before it got crushed!

Re:

Cheers for the replies. I've now cleaned and lubricated everything, serviced all the bearings and fitted (but not yet glued) new tubs. Still needs new bar tape and maybe new brake cable outers (they are fine, but stained and the rear is a bit short). The grease in the hubs and pedals was somewhat hardened, but no damage to any of the balls, cones or races. Overall, it's in lovely condition.

The frame is a 57cm square, with a 16cm headtube. I'm 6.5" (196cm), so it's definitely too small.

A few more pics below.
