Marzocchi crowns - how swappable??

Firsty, apologies if this isn't in quite the right place, but seeing as I'm talking about forks approx 9-12 years old they seemed retro

I've got a set of Bomber Z5Flylights, the red ones - I think they're from 99 or 2000. I need to get a new steerer for them as the one they came with is a bawhair too short to fit.

How easy is it to obtain a replacement steerer for these? Or would I be better getting a replacement crown with the whole unboltable section - Z5 one is pressed in just now.

Any ideas or advice is greatly received!

I'm not familiar with the 2000 Bombers, but up to 99 are the ones with the bolt-on CNC brace. In those cases you can either swap a complete crown/steerer if you can find the right one, or else buy a new steerer for c£30 steel or c£60 (!) aluminium.

They are a press fit, so somebody like an auto engineer with a powerful enough press could press out your existing steerer and press in the new one. You could send it to Windwave and they would do the same, but I think the cost would be more than the fork is worth.

Alternatively you could wait to find a fork with a long enough steerer and then sell your existing fork.

Ah okay, so the physical measurements between the stanchions should be the same regardless of which Bombers they are?

I was thinking it might be easier to locate a whole new crown and steerer at a reasonable price rather than having to bend over for the cost to get a new one fitted. I think the forks only cost me £40 lol

I got a quote from Windwave of £60 for a new stera and pressing of it!

So i got a new stera off CRC and eBay for £20 and bought a lad at the local garage workshop lunch (£5) and he pressed it out then new one in for me!

Yes it is the same.

If you are using a bolt on crown, don't put a Z2 crown on a Z1 or longer gtravel fork. There is less overlap on the Z2 stanchion and they crack due to the greater forces the longer fork subjects them too.

what size is your steerer and what size are you needing ? i might be able to swap you one if yours isnt too short

and i'm just outside edinburgh so postage won't be a killer
