Marzocchi Bomber Forks ..... I Love Them :-)

As part of my Caldera rebuild I wanted some period forks.

Period forks but disc compatible.

So I had a rummage and created this ever so slight frankenfork :D

➡️ Z4 disc compatible lowers
➡️ Z2 uppers and internals
➡️ BETD Downhill brace
➡️ New SS bolts

Whilst this is hardly the worlds most exciting revamp I love it because it works and they are so simple to work on.

The rebound works and is noticeable, the brace is noticeably stiffer than the std brace with oodles more mud room, the preload adjusters match the colour scheme on the bike & the fork decals

Brilliant stuff.

I wish all suspension forks were this easy to work on. Modern RS stuff is close but these do take the biscuit.

Looking forward to getting them fitted and tested 8)

Super-light crown and steerer.... 8)

I agree, they are much more maintainable than Rock Shox of similar age and most of the parts are of the same size, so such mods as yours are possible. It's nice to be able to keep old forks going by using modern seals, as the bits still fit.

top work there  i love these forks too and have been messing about with a set of jr t's with the early twin disc tab legs for my home-made hope twin front brakes 8)

does the brace allow you to run a 3" wide tyre ? and how much was it ?

It does indeed allow a 3'' tyre to be used 8)

Bought it off of here attached to a Z1 fork. About the only usable bit in the end though :(

Just bought this:

http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=191505

It has Bomber QR20 Z1 forks on it... wouldn't even know where to start with them!!

Any links to service info, or any tips??

As Zigzag's link shows its pretty easy stuff.

15mm socket unbolts the lowers from the uppers .... careful as the open oil bath nature of the forks means that removing the lowers should release a flow of used oil!

Then a 22mm :? socket releases the internals from the uppers - releasing more used oil.

Quick clean and re assemble, replacing the seals if needed.

Its worth dropping the lowers to change the oil as the forks do feel plusher with fresh oil.

Seals "should" be fine.

The lowers/donor fork in the pic above were at least 13 years old with original seals. a quick strip and rebuild and all is tickity boo.

Chears guys, some really helpful info there. Is Enduro the best place for seals, or are there any English suppliers?
