hi guys i have just bought what i belive to be a 1990 marin eldridge grade, im guessing year by colour and a build thread on here, but it has a rear u brake exage i belive not a canti and the one in the thread on here has cantis any ideas

Daz.....

90 vintage EG had light grey zolatone paint, white lettering and cantis, 91 dark grey zolatone with orangey red lettering and you guessed it cantis.

U brakes were the 'in thing' 88/9 I believe. Final year Uni housemate had a nice Kona Cindercone with U brake rear which puts it 88 (forgive vagueness I was a student at the time - bitd when students were proper students)

US models had different paint and spec across the years so dig around; Marin anoraks will be able to decode the serial number to confirm vintage (I'm more of a Pace anorak these days)

I think 1990 was the first year of the Eldridge. Is it a small frame? My mate had a 1990 Palisades that had a rear U due to the size of the bike

I would agree i remeber getting my 1990 bearvalley and sitting on a 15.5 eldridge wish i could afford that! this had a u brake like you say due to size and the cantis at the time werent low profile so on your pedal stroke you would catch your heal if it didnt have the u brake
