Manitou Hardtail frame and forks.

Retro Newbie
I have a 1994 Manitou hardtail frameset complete with 1/4 Manitou 4 forks.
18 inch, Unfortunate small crack on the chain stay and a very small hairline crack at the headset. Can anyone give me a guide price? Had from new and have other original bits and pieces, Ringle seat pin, hyperlite bars, control tech stem to name a few. Floating it out there now and new to the forum so any advice would be gratefully taken!
Thanks.

Re:

Welcome to the forum.

Manitou frames are well known for cracking, so that will come as no surprise, but it all depends why you are valuing it.

If you plan to sell it, then I'm afraid it is most valuable in bits, especially the other components you have mentioned, I can't give you proper values, as this is not really my area, but someone will be along who will know.

If, on the other hand you have no intention to sell, but would just like to know what the bike is worth, complete with cracks, then I'd say a couple of hundred pounds max, as the frame cannot be ridden, and although it could be repaired (and plenty have been), the cost of that repair far outstrips the value of the frame.

That's great, thanks for the quick response!
The intention is to sell so I'll list the bits along with the frame in a future post and attach some photos.
Thanks again for the advice.

I agree, 150/200 maybe less with the cracks. I suspect a mint frame might be 400. I have my FS being repaired and the cost is indeed more than I paid for whole bike. And it's being done stateside so add in shipping.

Hi astanford

As an owner of both completely crack free Hardtail's, and a softtail, unfortunately they don't seem to get the money, which is a great shame.
One with cracks imho is worth very little, and far less than has been suggested above :(
To have one repaired properly I think is a labour of love,as Ti_pin_man is doing.

I look forward to the pictures anyway, as I love a bit of wall art (not ment to offend) 8)

Niall.

Re:

Thanks for that, yes I too looked into getting the frame repaired but looked pricey!
Pics to follow anyway!
Thanks,
Andy.

Spot on, aint nothing pretty about the cost. Luckily I got them to Frank the Welder a few months prior to my wife giving birth to beautiful twin girls... it was close! Any more cracks in any of my bikes and they will have to become wall art.
