As my Orbit frame is completely missing canti mounts, i was thinking creating disc mount for the rear, using the 2 mug guard mounting holes as anchors, i see a couple of you have created disc tabs - how easy is it??

Lets see a pic of those mudgaurd mounts then?

If they are man enough I could make (or help you to make) something. I've got plenty of aluminium sheet in the garage (4 & 6mm), few basic tools, and a PDF of the IS mount dimensions. If you fancy it drop me a PM, I have plenty of tea and bikkies :)

here is a couple of pictures, having ask this, another idea came to me right before i went ot bed last night, and that is just a pair of brake boss cut off a frame, and glue, plus a couple of hose clips to ancher each boss down, then using a brake booster to stop them bedning off under braking.

As you can see it looks like the previous bosses, where glued, plus there is a little hole on the under side, to maybe anchor a rivrt.

if you do get disc mounts on there you may need a small brace across between the seat and chain stays to help with the new forces that area was not intended to have,

or find a skilled ally welder and see if he can weld on some ally canti mounts,

the glue and clamp idea i doubt will work as when fully on there is some force involved and to have them tight enough i imagine you would have damaged the tube itself first,

good luck fun little project, wondering if one of the dynatec frames could take a disc myself, its the bonded glue holding upto the heat thats stopping us having a go just now , need to find another old frame to try it on,

Those rack mounts look plenty meaty enough to carry a disk mount to me. But, like Stubb said its introducing a twisting force in to the dropout area that it wasnt designed to cope with. Thats not to say it wont be strong enough though, it probably will but your always taking a chance that it might not hold up. My guess is that if the dropout is weak it would have fallen off by now anyway so go for it. If it breaks it breaks.

well ive botched some brake bosses, i used an old knackered Marin Quake 5, cut off the brake bosses, and voila, the distance between them, are a bit narrower then normal, but with some good quality glue, and also using the small holes on the underside of the stays in the frame to screw into, and use the brake booster, and also 4 jubilee hose clips, i cant see it being too weak.
