Hi all was looking thru a well known auction site and while looking for m900 xtr there was m910 xtr wondered what the differences were/are if any?
thanks Dave

Look in the Archive at 1995 under shimano (almost certainly a list in this forum somewhere)
Few tweaks here and there and new style hubs.
A stop gap before 1996

Agree that there are some differences between the two versions - a M910 rear hub is considerably fatter than the original M900 and the M910 STI has gear indicator windows wheras the original doesn't for examples.

I also think that some items weren't originally included as part of the M900 line up whereas they were as M910 such as seat posts.

Other items didn't change such as cantis and threaded headsets.

If you were to put together a groupset with everything from the M900 series XTR range you'd have both M900 and M910 items; i) STI's M900 & M910, ii) Hubs M900 & M910, iii) F & R Mechs M900, iv) Headsets M900, v) Cassettes M900 & M910, vi) Brakes M900, vii) Cranks M900 and viii) Q/R Seat Post Binder Bolt M900.

The other XTR item is the BB, which was sq tpr and is BB UN-91.

There are variants in numbers for the front mechs to reflect top pull or bottom pull and in headsets as they were available in 3 sizes being 1", 1 & 1/4" and 1 & 1/8" which I have ignored for the above, also you can get 2 types of brake blocks with the later type being a cartridge system.

I would like to be corrected where I am wrong so I know what I am talking about in the future!

Anyway it is 1995... M900 was 1992 for the info
Unfortunately Sniperworks is not available, the new sites links don't work.

OK, Biggest visual difference is
Hubs
M900 & M910

As for the rest
Rear Mech
It was tweaked to use the now common cylinder spring and a long cage version was made available.

Canti's
Model number stayed at M900 but gained a -c and the cartridge pad setup.

Chainset
Model number stayed at M900 but gained some fancy Ti/alu bolts, it had already gained it's SG-X outer ring in 1993

Bottom Bracket
This was still the UN91 that replaces the UN90 in 1993 (basically it lost it bundled tool)

Cassette
Still same M900 number
Not sure if this was now riveted together rather then mini-chainring bolted/screwed together or if that waited another year for when it gain it's IG style profiling.

Seatpost
The M910 lighter and silver seatpost was added to the collection.
I suppose another noticable visual difference
M900 and M910

Shift & Brake lever combo.
Gear indicators, fully milled out brake lever compared to partial, probably improved shifter internals like the M737 (but I've not had one or taken it apart). More like the M737 recoloured and glossed up which came a year earlier.

Thanks for the info,I was wondering what the differences were as it seams that you can get the m910 a bit cheaper than the m900 and they look similar.

i've read that the m910 rear mech has a different spring setup than the m900. not sure if that's true and what the details are.

edit: NVM I see FC has covered this. of course!

would it be possible to mix n match parts from each and it all to work still?? even tho theres a few yrs between groupsets.
