I'm running some M739 V-brakes with ceramic pads on ceramic rims, but i am suffering intolerable squeal. I've gone through the usual procedure of cleaning the rims and roughening up the pads, but it's still there. After some trawling through the forum, i came across a couple of threads on linkage play in the brakes themselves. After checking mine, i have found that there is quite a bit of play. So the question is, could the brakes themselves be the problem? Any help appreciated. :)

This is one of those where you pretty much answer your own question. But for the sake of clarity...

"Yes. They could". M739 XT brakes had a lot of play in them and were notorious squealers.

I've seen people tieing cable ties around the parallelogram linkage to try and keep things tight to stop any vibration, but not sure if it works.

There is a fix which involves using Hope disc brake washers (which are stainless washers you can buy in really thin sizes) to eliminate the slop. It's on here too but I'm not very good at searching for stuff.

Yes, i've found the thread for that fix, posted by Chumlee. I just need to source some of the washers now.

There is someone selling the rebuild kits on eBay right now, £16 or so. Search for v brake repair kit. I'd post a link but on my mobile.
