Deore LX Chainset, 4 arm. Square Taper.

Not sure of the exact year or model number, but it's pictured below on BlackStar.

Cosmetic condition is good. However the granny ring could do with straightening out a little as it's slightly out of true.

Also (and more importantly), the drive side crank arm threads have unfortunately been stripped, meaning that they cannot be removed with a crank extractor. I'm going to remove them by carefully riding the bike around on the grass until the arm loosens itself enough to be pulled off.

They bolt on just fine and once it's on, you'd never notice that the threads were missing until you came to take it off again. Would be ideal for a hack/pub bike or a budget build.

Despite the above, they've got to be a bargain at £14 posted

Barney......try and get hold of a bearing puller (£5 ish) - they look like something out of war of the worlds - grab arms with a central screw bolt - that will get it off. If you ride around on those without the crank bolts on the only way they will fall off is by stressing/distorting the taper (or is it an octi/isis?)

It's a square taper - thanks for the advice*...

Btw - that AS looks fantastic in black and silver; never seen one like that before :)

Thanks :)

Maverick did all the hard work on the frame (ie. the respray and new decals) before I bought it.

I'm re-building it as a singlespeed and adding a splash of colour to it as we speak - check it out in my signature.
