Hi all,

recently I got a quite sensible offer for to purchase/lease a new 2.0 D Disco with 7 seats, 240 HP version with twin-turbo. Travelling with 3 kids & a mother in-law (+wifey of course :facepalm: )
forces me to buy a good 7-seater (I drive only in the family, so a second car is useless), and as I'm also a farmer, a proper 4x4 drivetrain can be also handy. The 3.0 V6 diesel can be interesting, too, as I'm not the biggest fan of engine downsizing anyway.

I'm just a bit worried about reliability, maintenance costs, etc. If you have any suggestions/experiences about this model to share, please don't hold them back!

That sounds like the Ignium engine version - our neighbours' Father bought one new and it was back at the dealers for around 6 weeks with a mystery coolant loss.

They ended up rejecting it and going for a Volvo XC90 instead.

Most issues that owners have had are minor niggles and software - plus the looks - its an ugly fecker! And servicing, a recent brake service came to around £2k with replacement Brembo pads/ discs/ sensors etc on a 2014 Range Rover Sport

I dunno, an old S-Max or Galaxy does 7 seats far better with proper space for passengers. Old 7 seater 'MPV' designs seem to be evaporating fast with fuax by four 'SUV' taking their place with far more cramped interiors.

I was working on a Skoda Karoq yesterday and it was simply awful, nasty cheap plastics, cramped interior - I dont get it, its a giant vehicle yet no more space in front than my Ford Courier van

I like the older Discovery 4 but again, they are costly to service and run.

We had a few Discos in work and all were grim and festooned with all kinds of annoying foibles.The Landcruisers and a few Hilux were bulletproof.

If you are getting one new you will be covered by the warranty so no need to panic in my opinion. If you are using it on the farm it will be a useful bit of kit.

The stats about reliability don't lie but we got a new Discovery Sport around a year ago (for the occasional use 7 seats) and it's been faultless. Lovely vehicle to travel in or drive too, very smooth. 8)
 
I used to work for JLR, visiting dealers carrying out quality audits: wouldn't touch one with a barge pole - maintenance costs are very high and if you have any kind of lease (PCP, PCH or CH) you'll have to use a LR dealer.

Not known many cases where a car leaves a dealer with much less than a grand spent.

And it is soooo ugly.

Yeah, it's hard on the eye, looks harder on the wallet still :facepalm: :twisted: !

I'm already fed up with maintaining 2 cars, (D231 Navara is the workhorse, Jeep GC 3.0 CRD 2017 is the fancy, if (now) small one) but I must keep the pick-up in the stable anyway. I plan to purchase one car (GC goes, of course) which does not mind to substitute the "workhorse" every now & then ( for big family & back-up duties). For similar money of the LR I can get a 177 HP Toyota LC, but it feels cramped in 7 seats guise, slow & dated, if bulletproof. LC200 V8 diesel is too dear even as second-hand, (not available new from 2017 due to EU-exhaust'regs anyway) and running costs of those are bordering on ridiculous/Prince Charles' level.

XC90s are about 10% dearer, but their drivetrain is Meccano-level compared to LR' system.

Ehh, I guess I'm gonna lose my temper and get a Galaxy for 2p, and see it dyin' gracefully on the dirt roads :twisted: !!!
