Has anyone converted there old two pin halogen bulbed lights to run on LED's ?

I've just rigged up a pair of old Smart 20w lights to a pair of r\c car batteries but compared to my LED torch I find the light to be yellow not bright white.

I'm no sparky but I've got this far and wouldn't mind upgrading the lights further while I'm at it.

I've had a look on ebay and Maplin website but it's a wide confusing world out there so I was wondering if anyone else had a given it a bash and had any success.

The problem is finding a way of dissipating the heat. The LEDs that are worth having need big heatsinks, which is why they are all made of aluminium.

Better to use the halogens until they are finished, then recycle them and buy an LED system.

Yellow tints are better than white when riding offroad as the colours of the surroudings (browns and greens) look more natural. White tints make these colours look dull and grey by comparison. LEDs with warmer tints (yellower) have a lower lumen output compared with the equivalent LEDs in cooler (whiter) tints, but are often more effective offroad.

Thanks for your input chaps :D

I'm quite happy to be out on my bike with some home made lights as it is so I most likely will stick with what I've made for now.

I have got the lumen lust though

Nice one ZZ.

That's exactly the kind of info I was looking for.

If you see a big Thundercats\Batman type ray of light in the sky over Clackmannanshire then you'll know I've got the lights converted :D

Thanks again guys.
