Picked this site up on a Google search. Regulars may know of it, but I was amazed by the claimed weight of some of these bikes.

http://www.light-bikes.com/BikeGallery/

Winner in the hardtails is 4.89 kilo's

My question is - Is it cool to be able to say You've got a 5 kilo MTB?

its cool to say my bike stays in one piece

Fair point, it's definitely not going to sound good down A&E...

There is a disclaimer on the site saying that they are in no way responsible for the actions of these bikes owners...

I am very pleased to say none of my bikes share any components with any of those. Scary light bikes and all garage queens.

Isn't a bit odd that many of the builds list Schwalbe Furious Freds' as the tyres but do not have them fitted in the photos? In that case I could just pick a list of the lightest parts made, add a photo of any bike and put it on the website.

got MAG21 SL's down to 846 g, since the lightest I could think you would get them to would be about 1250g some how a 1/3 of the weight went missing.

I think you've hit it on the head - it's a'll b*llocks!

I have to admit I like looking at the parts they use to get down to those weights. I like my bikes light but also make sure they are bombproof for the way I ride.

here are some weights of my bikes:

19.6 lb Ibis Ti hardtail
22.6 lb. Ibis carbon Mojo SL with 5.5 inches of travel front and rear
21.5 lb. Ibis Ripley (1.25 inches rear travel)

I have done 4 foot drops on the Mojo SL many times. No issues.
