Kona Project 2 race

Hey everyone,

Is anyone familiar with what a Project 2 fork should look like without the crown race?

I just got one today and need to remove the crown race that's already on there. It seems to be a 1996 triple butted going by the markings on the steerer.

I'm guessing the silver part is what I'm aiming to remove but there is a painted lip (black) under it that isn't there on another Project 2 fork I have... It also appears the fork has been repainted so I'm suspicious that this lip is part of the race but I don't want to go smacking it yet in case it is indeed the fork. My attempts to remove the silver part are failing without a proper tool :?

Hmmm, that's really useful, thanks! This would suggest that maybe I need to try go from under that little lip. I wonder if it was painted over at some point.

Also nice project!
