outing a CL post (from the USA) when 99% of this forum lives europe doesn't make much sense especially if you're considering buying it (being a yank). imagine selling locally and a chap from europe emails them

I've offered to help European buyers by acting as a shipping point for both CL and eBay sellers who will only ship to the US. Others have offered to do the same so the "US-only" limitation for Craigslist is really moot.

I always get chaps from Africa emailing me for my items on CL

To Golden and SFKlein's statements -

There's a reason there's no 'all of Craigslist' search. The site is designed around, and for local users.

I know there's no rule here about outing. Or on the VRC for that matter. I'm just sayin'...this is what can happen when things are outed.

No need to make this about the Illuminati either. Sheesh.

Question of semantics on VRC? Seems to me that if you get yelled at, it's some sort of "rule" in anything but name.

From VRC (and your words if I'm not mistaken :D ):
"Outting (and why did I get yelled at)
The topic of 'outting' often gets discussed here in the VRC. While it is not a written rule, alerting others to VRC items found, it has become a self enforced courtesy not to out on the public forum. Rather, its has become common to PM or Email another forum member directly to let them know of a find. This is more directed towards local Craigslist postings as opposed to eBay, however hidden auctions are found by those who work hard to find them."

While CL doesn't offer a global search of all CL sites, we all know, and likely have, CL search bots that will search across the US. From there, it's between the seller and buyer to figure out if shipping is possible. Shipping to Europe is really just an extension of that shipping negotiation (along with a Customs form)

EDIT: I, and others, also search the Auction Watch section of this site which does a global search across eBay. I frequently contact European sellers to ask them if shipping to the US is possible and oftentimes it is. So in my world, posting CL ads that are out of my local area is totally in keeping with the practices here on RB.

When you post, are you not posting on behalf of the collective, for are you not all one?

As SF stated, there are many well know CL search bots; I've bought off Craigslist from many states across the country. They can at times be riskier transactions, but I've not had one go bad yet. The MTB scene in NYC is not all that lively, (imagine that), so if I was to stick to my local CL as you state the site is designed for, then I would never find a thing...well maybe a fat chance every now and again.

CL is set up for private individual transactions more than local, (people break that rule all the time on CL), if it really wanted to prohibit the non-local transaction, why list all the other CL sites on the main page of the local CL site? Yes, local is best, but not convenient or realistic when it comes to finding good mountain bike deals, if located in an urban setting.
