Kona Control Center Headset

How do they work? Do you just screw it down and then tighten the allen key?

That is what i have done and the top clamp is not in line along the bike's main axis, how do i get it so?

i don't believe you do get it in-line with the axis, unless where the thread tightens-to makes it so...

of course i could be wrong... it's about 10 years since i last tightened one - although it would be handy to know if i'm right as i'm in the process of buying one to put on my 1st retro-build - my old lava-dome.

also, just out of interest - where did you get yours? i don't suppose you know where to get any NOS ones???

It came with my explosif.

I think it would look better in line, but don't want to snap it applying too much torque!

I assume it's the same as the Impact with the allen key top race- in which case they don't align with the frame unless by chance, so don't go over tightening it for looks!

Turn the top of it by hand to remove all the play, and then nip up the allen bolt to hold it in place (much easier than using two huge spanners on lock nuts) - do not try and align it with anything!

The top half of these headsets is great, the bottom half is rubbish. Piece of piss to service the top half by whipping the top off and pumping full of grease.

My explosif has the lower half from an FSA Orbit Extreme and the original top half from 1995. Looks rubbish but works a treat
