Didn't want to out this since it's local to me but I'm trying to figure out the year. Red wasn't a standard colour as far as I know but it looks original especially since they've painted the rear triangle black

It's got canti's so it must be pre '97. The decals look 96'ish. Anthony, ernie and the experts...any ideas what year this beast is?

Looks like 1996 era , the top end konas that year were setup for maguras, but lower end cindercone , lava dome still had the dog collars.

It's a 1996 size 18 (not 19) in the late-season option red colour, but with the seatstays over-painted in black.

Shame it's an 18" but I'm going to keep a cheeky eye on it...

What's the story behind the colour option? I love the "green" (gold really) of the '96.

Variety is the spice of life? There was also a green Lava Dome, even though the standard burnt orange colour scheme was possibly the best liked Lava Dome colour scheme ever. They may have dome Hahannas and Fire Mountains in option colours as well I think. And then there were the yellow Explosifs, but perhaps only for Spain.

Indeed it is. I notice the top tube decals are the 97 style without the added Jungle bits as well.
