Kona Catalogues

Retro Guru
Hi,

Anyone know where I can look at decently scanned Kona Catalogues from about 1998 onwards please since Konaretro seems to be down at the moment.

Also, anyone know the frame weights for Stabs and Stinkys from 1998 onwards?

Cheers,
Dean.

Cheers mate, I did have a quick look at that but more need info from 99 to about 2002 specifically.

Thanx tho.

I hope konaretro will return. Stewart Pratt told me there must be a problem with the server, as he had renewed the contract and wanted konaretro to continue. No doubt he has other things to keep him busy though.

The only weights I've got for Stinkys and Stabs are 2004 bike weights of 42.2lbs and 44.7 lbs respectively for the Primo models. As for frame weights, it could be a question of 'if you have to ask, you don't want one', but you could register in the konaworld owner's area and ask Tech.

Cheers Anthony, great info.

I remember my old Stab seemed to have a super smooth and plush back end but had to get rid of it as I wanted something I could ride uphill too.

I was thinking maybe if I could get an old stinky with 6" travel as standard (or with a BETD link) so I'd have a nice mid travel bike with the super lush rear suspension I'm remember so well from my previous Kona.

I've just built up a Spesh Enduro (with 6" BETD link) and it's an great improvement over my Mongoose Teocali (the mongoose freedrive is sort of a high pivot(ish) design and aint so plush I found) but still not quite the ride I'm after. I've been spoilt by my old Stab I think.

Cheers.

The all-up weights vary mostly with the kit, rather than the frame, but I have in fact now found the claimed frame weights of the 1999 frames, which are Stab Dee-Lux 9.5lbs, Stab 7.9lbs, Stinky/Stinky Dee-Lux 7.5lbs. It isn't quite clear from the tube specs why the Stab Dee-Lux weighs so much more. They are beefier tubes, but not hugely different, so I think the shaping and the chainstays must make up a lot of the difference.

If you go into Community within konaworld.com, you find the owners area forum, find a thread which tech has replied to and in his signature there are links to 'tech info'. Normally if you click on that it has the technical specs for several years from 99 onwards. It seems to be down at the moment, but I expect it'll be back sometime soon.

Extreme Trails "Out Of Bounds" Dual Suspension - STINKY DEE-LUX, STINKY
Kona Out of Bounds dual suspension bikes are suited for extreme trails where steep sections predominate. Frame is designed for high strength and durability, using Kona 7005 Aluminum double-butted tubing and Easton RAD Aluminum tubing. Heavy-duty components and shocks are featured for maximum strength. Bikes are heavier than cross-country dual suspension, but are fitted with triple chainrings to allow for steep uphill sections. Double clamp forks are compatible.
Active, rising rate design built around Fox shocks (7.9" eye to eye: 2.0" stroke).
With a leverage ratio of 2.5:1, the rear wheel has 5" of travel.
Main chain stay pivot is located 35mm above the horizontal hub axle plane, minimizing "pogo" effects caused by changes in chainstay length. It also reduces pedaling force from activating the suspension.
Rectangular rear stays connect to cold-forged swingarms.
Wraparound head tube gusset and downtube gusset (Stinky) Easton RAD top tube and down tube on Stinky Dee-Lux provides added strength and accurate steering.
A total of 8 cartridge bearing pivots on seat tube/rocker pivot, seat stay yoke and bottom bracket yoke.
Custom tuned Fox Vanilla (Stinky) and Fox Vanilla RC (Stinky Dee-Lux).
 Stinky & Stinky Dee-Lux standard spring rates: 400 lbs (Small-15"), 450 lbs (Medium-17"), 500 lbs (Long-18"), 550 lbs (Extra Long-19").

STINKY
Highly active and extremely plush "Out of Bounds" frame design is based on the Stab Dee-Lux DH design, lighter and modified to allow triple chainrings for steep, technical descents and climbs. While these frames are suited for steep drop-offs and other types of rough terrain, they are not indestructible. Standard Kona Warranty applies to these and all Kona models.
Custom butted, shaped & tapered tubing.
 Tubing dimensions: Top - 38.1 x 1.8 - 1.1 - 1.4t, Down Ð 44 x 2.6- 1.2-1.3t, Seat - 31.8 x 2.35 - 1.8t, Chain stays Ð LHS: 34/17 x 1.8-1.5t; RHS: 34/17 x 1.7-1.1-1.3t. Seat stays - 24/19 x 1.6t.
Forged aluminum swingarms, seat stay bridge, chain stay and bottom bracket yoke aid torsional rigidity.
Replaceable HRD dropouts, I.S. Disc mounts, seat tube gussets, double clamp compatible.
 Cartridge bearing pivots eliminate stiction.
Made for 27.0mm seat post, 31.8mm front derailleur, 68/110mm bottom bracket, & 1-1/8" headset.
