KONA AA rebuilt

A little while back I asked some advice here about rebuilding a Kona AA - effectively all about taking off pretty much everything from the frame and replacing it. I included some pictures of the original bike just before she went in for the rebuild:

And here she is post having all the new bits.....

A quick spin today - but first impressions are slightly livlier steering (you can see the somewhat changed geometry going from 80mm travel to 100 mm travel forks and a shorter goose neck on the handlebar stem), all round substantially lighter (I so wish I had weighed the bike before the re-fit) and generally a bit quicker of pace and all round sharper. I hope the modern take on an old bike isn't going to offend too many on here....

(Might be selling a whole bunch of absolutely original Kona AA bits and bobs in the near future...)

Very nice! Out of interest, what brake combo did you use? I ask as I am doing a build that requires a disc/V mix as well. How similar are the levers in terms of appearance (this was the main concern people mentioned in the thread I started regarding mixing brakes)

Dan

Looks pretty cool but the front brake hose and rear brake cable are way too long and personally I'm not keen on the seatpost (something like Thomson or Syncros would look much better IMO).

Is that a GPS you have mounted on the stem?

Fair points about the cables - though not sure you've id'd the rear brake cable correctly - that's actually pretty snug, and the slight curve you can see at the rear is a fixed guide.

The seatpost is the original....

Yes - GPS mounted on the handlebars. Not for navigation ( ! ) but as an alternative to a bike-computer to measure time / distance etc.

The brakes are Avid Elixir disk on the front and XT canti on the back, but with Avid levers for both - which feel just great. Pics attached since someone asked...

Sucks that the weather is so cr*p today....
