Re:
Well bantamsuper, it would appear that we haven’t really given you the desired & definitive answer that you need.
Mmm, well here’s my take on it. Although I don’t actually own a 1996 Kula, I do own a 1996 Ku that has a Main Frame constructed from the same tubing as the Kula - Easton ProGram Elite.
My Ku has had four different 27.0mm posts successfully fitted in the frame – a Ritchey S12 WCS , a Kona Tahoma, a PZ Racing C3MB and a USE Alien that I won on e-bay last week.
All these posts are fairly accurate when measured with my digital Vernier – circa 26.95 to 26.98.
Other Kula frames that I own also require a 27.0mm post, i.e. my 2000 and my 2001, and these have had most of the posts listed above used in them.
Al, I gave your comments some considerable thought. For a while I was wondering if the 1997 frame that used your 27.0mm was a Steel frame, which would be more forgiving than an Aluminium frame on an undersized post?
Then I just remembered something that I heard some time ago….. As 27.0mm posts are deemed to be rarer than 27.2mm, some riders have had a 27.0mm internal Seat Tube reamed out to accept the more common 27.2mm Post. Maybe that has happened to yours?
We all know a man who would know the answer, and when I have got a bit more time, I will do a search of this site to see what he has previously documented.
