Not seen a set of these on ebay for many years. Saw a set sell on a FB group a few years ago but for ~ $300

Quality old tyres in that kind of condition are as rare as unicorn shit and getting rarer by the day, if someone with ample disposable income needs or wants something badly enough they'll pay through the nose for it, especially if it may be the last opportunity to buy that particular item they'll ever get.
Of course for average folks that is ludicrous money, but for others it would barely even register as an expense, there are millionaires and no doubt even the odd billionaire out there who love old bikes too.

The classic car scene is huge and iconic cars eye wateringly expensive. I wonder if retro bikes will ever achieve that level of interest or if it will almost fizzle out.

I may be a bit naive here but do tyres Not have a lifespan date ie a car timing belt etc ?
i ride retro rubber but not in anger. Often think if the same principle applies

Sure these will be display only. I think bicycle tyres were better made bitd. I have 32yr old NOS Spesh tyres that have no tread cracks or sidewall issues at all but I still would not risk it. Car tyres are supposed to last upto 10-12yrs afaik.
