Klein Rascal Questions :)

Hi all!

First I would like to say it’s great to find a forum for Retro bikes :)

I have just bought a Klein Rascal from the US. I think it’s from 92 ore 93 it has the Moonrise paint scheme. My question is regarding the headset is it 1" ore 1-1/8"?

It looks like a 1" on the pictures but I am not sure. (the frame has just been shipped to me) The other thing is that I also bought a Cook Brothers "dog bone?!" crank and I am not sure it will work.

Br,
Johan

Welcome Johan

There are far more knowledgable people here regarding Kleins (actually regarding most things!) although I'd imagine the headtube is for an inch steerer.

For the Cooks cranks the determining factor will be the b/b length and for Cooks you need a long b/b, 120+ if i remember correctly

Don't forget to post a photo in Readers Bikes when it arrives

(Doh, slow typing!)

Thanks!!

Great! This is the second old klein I have bought. The first one were the "team usa" -92 but that frame died :( So after 6years I gave it a try again :)

Pictures will come up later :)

Hi,

I’m having problem finding a 1" fork. The one at Ebay an MARZOCCHI were not 1" unfortunately :( the info were not right...

Does anyone have a idea were I can find a new suspension fork that is 1" steer.

BR,
Johan

you could buy an old rc35 from someone here and then swpa the 1 1/8" steerer for a new 1" from Pace. they can supply you with a shim too. I did this for my orange! because I had the same problem

hi,

The thing is that i would like to have a new one :) 2008
I know this is a bit wrong.......... :)

you'll need to be careful not to upset the geometery of the bike. Find a guy on here called Carsten - he is the guru of all klein and will tell you what travel the geometry is set for - i thinks its 80mm so putting a 140mm fork on will make it ride really bad!!

True!

Its a (S) frame... so that would make the bike really bad if I used a 80 fork. Didnt think about that :) Thanks!

Johan

i have a 93 rascal and it has quadras which i believe are 80mm (but more like 8mm )

so - you should be fine with 80mm - i think they were all suspension corrected for 80mm but anymore and you'd be scewed

or keep it rigid?
