klein bb bearings

They are expensive because they are made of some sort of ceramic composite. Ceramic bearings are the "big new thing", being very much harder then normal bearings and offering less friction. I have heard good things about cermaic bearings but have had no experience with them myself. Basically the ultimate bearings for your bike.

oh yea dont get me wrong. ceramic bearings have been around for years and years ( note to self - not exactly sure how long - must find out ! ) . they are very high quality - but still a bit expensive maybe ? i was just wondering if they would fit a rascal really, and if anyone else has used them or if they could recomend better ones.

i need to change the ones in my rascal at some point too - has anyone got any experience in changing them? im guessing it might be a real bugger of a job?

$110 for some 6003 bearings  you could buy about 50 sets of normal bearings for that and im guessing your bearings are the origanol ones having lasted 15 years+....so thats 750 years worth of normal bearings for the price of one set of ceramics....

sorry, got my sums wrong, they are £2.78 a pair posted versus £65 a pair posted so 23 sets for the price of one,at 15 years a pair is 350 years worth lol :) so they are a bargain

If you have the Kein tool then easy. Always remind me of a big chain link tool.
It can be done with out the Klein tool. Evens did my BB BITD  and charged me for the higher of the tool. But i know they didn't have the tool as the importers had two 'tools' and had them both. But thats Evens for you. Anther story.

IMO I wouldn't bother with ceramaic bearing unless you an utter head case and weigh 50 stone
Just get a good quality brand like 'FAG' will last :D

klein tool !

i asked a similar question a while ago, carston scanned in some plans of a homemade tool he made for pressing out the BB. i could do with finding that link again, then an engineer to make me that tool !!
