The crack

A fellow Retrobiker suggested I make details of the crack clearer as he points out I call it a seat stay whereas it is really the seat collar so here goes.

There is one problem; a small crack in the seat collar, compression area (please study the picture carefully) only a few mm. I have to assume it is a crack and not just in the paintwork. This has been evident for up to 15 years without getting any worse. This is very common on this model as the compression area is very long and creates a stress point here. Running the correct length seat post stops any further stress. This has the correct length seat post now.

Bear in mind that this is repairable if it ever should worsen. People have also cut the rather long seat clamp area down and fitted a simple collar as per late Klein MC2s.

I am astonished that this bike has not sold but here she is still for sale.

Does seem odd, things were moving last year but perhaps as the song goes "Moneys to tight to mention" ironic as its Simply Red. Good luck anyways.

Price drop bump

This is an early Christmas present for someone.

I will be splitting and selling the parts on Ebay from November 8 when I get back from a short break so this really is the last Retrobiker chance of a steal.

There is enough slack in the price for a repair and repaint by Jon or Martin to any Klein scheme you fancy if you really don't like the Red.

To my mind having one of the only reds in existence makes it different and no less striking.

Funny, if it had a snazzy photocromicfuzzfade paintjob I bet this would have gone within a day or so. Maybe its true and these are only bought to be looked at. Shame really as i'm sure it will ride beautifully.
I wonder if plain coloured attitudes will be the real collectors items in the future as most seem destined to be repainted or treated like skanky workhorses. I suspect they will be as rare as worms willies in 10 years time as more owners refashion them in popular colour schemes. If I hadn't blown all my funds on more bike tat already I would be very tempted to buy this and stick it in the loft for 20 years.
