Anyone give a synopsis of the bike? Where it came in the range, any good etc? MTBR review scores it fairly high. Type of steel? Experiences?

From just strictly my memories....

GT made a lot of steel bikes in the early to mid-90s; from True Temper and Tange; I have a 94 Ricochet, and it has the top of the line "recreation" components for the time- Shimano STX Special Edition (RC was to come a year or two later). It was a good steel bike from GT, but the Karakoram was better- it was their flagship steel frame readily available in bike shops, and equipped either with LX groupset on the non-suspended one, or xt on the one with suspension.

It was comparable to the Chro-mo stumpjumper of the same year, and price wise was even with the Pantera and Avalanche, but a step below the Avalanche LE and up (zaskar, etc...)

I'm sure the more knowledgeable people on here will correct me where I'm wrong...and I welcome it :)

For their steel bikes it was the model under the avalanche and avalanche team... also Bravado, Cyclone and later Psyclone are more top opf the range.
But the Karakorum still is a very nice one, specially with some nice paint and the matching forks and flipflop stem imho
cheers Roy

But one rarely saw those three in the LBS.

and by the time I was eve thinking of buying, the Avalanche and Avalanche LE were alloy models.
