Kajita sealed bearing bottom bracket

Just bought a 1988 bike which I am stripping for a rebuild and it has one of these fitted. Its not a modern cartridge type "sealed" bb but its not (least I don't think it is ) a cup and cone either. Its got a screw in bearing on either side, both with lock rings. Anyone know anything about them, could it have been OE at the time (198 for a bike with decent quality Japanese bits throughout (including an otherwise full xt m730 group set)?

Could well have been OE. They are retro and good quality as far as I'm aware.

thanks, I'll just leave it in and work round it as I'll never get it out without destroying it and it appears to be still in good condition.

If it's still smooth and you're not painting the frame or anything then no reason to take it out (except maybe to make it easier to remove if you need to in the future) but it should come out alright with the correct tools.

I definitely wouldn't replace it though, so long as it's the correct length for the cranks you intend to use.
