Just bought a Rockhopper

Hi

I have just bought myself a specialized rockhopper 1993? I really only bought it as a cheap bike to ride but really like it and after looking at the examples on the forum i am feeling inspired to treat it to a bit of TLC.

First on the list are the chainrings, the middle one looks bent and some of the teeth are worn. What can i replace them with?

What else is a worthwhile upgrade? this is my first time fixing bikes but i am reasonably handy and would like to do the work myself to save money.

Thanks

Alex

Hi Alex! Welcome to the forum! you'd have been better posting this in the Reader's MTBs section of the forum but an admin should move it for you sooner or later . You sure can replace the chainrings, your local bike shop should be able to supply you with some or you can buy on-line. A place I'd recommend if you do buy on-line is SJS cycles. They have a large selection of chainrings available. It might be worth replacing the chain and gear cable's and giving the headset and bottom brackets a thorough grease. Keep us updated as the build goes on.

Best wishes, Ollie.

Old specialized bikes are great IMHO , have,nt thought much of them in last few years mind .....like a lot of the bigger bike companies they have adopted a churn them out mentality over quality I feel .....so great buy and enjoy riding it ...oh and welcome
