Judy's Oily Bits!

Old School Grand Master
Once again I call on your collective knowledge. I decided that if I can't go for a ride I will put the red srings I have into my old Judy XC's. As usual I have charged in and taken the wrong bit off. I realise now that the elastomers must be accessed from the top. What I am looking at is a black plastic cartridge looking thing that judging by it's weight is empty. Should this have oil in it? How do I get oil into it? Do I need a new one? Angry Asian seems to say that the plastic one is not a lot of use.

What are my chances of finding anything else to replace it?

Thanks.

Tim flooks at tftuned still has some damper cartridges left.

I bought one off him a few weeks ago.

Have read somewhere that it is possible to refill the plastic damper (check the last few threads on rock shox here as there is a link to the service manual with info). Think the standard dampers get a bad press because they don't perform as consistantly as the aftermarket alloy ones. If I were you I'd refill the one you have, or at least try, before spending £30 on a new one.

Let me know how much oil you spill/ingest and the frequency of profane outburts, as the cartridge in my SL's needs doing!

Hopefully I'll learn from your mistakes/injuries!!!
