Please could you give an indication as to why you felt as though you needed to saw the stems in half? I don't feel I can make an informed choice as to if I should buy them or not without knowing this. Thanks in advance, Alistair x

I use a syncross stem like that to fit the crown bit of headsets onto the forks .
