In its day it was considered a capable trail machine, the AM category not really being properly established back then.

So defititely a trail bike, albeit versatile enough to huck some bigger stuff. Not an XC machine by quite some margin. If it appeared new on today's more varied and specialised market it's be a short travel trail squidger. Even today full squidge XC bikes are quite an unusual sight, generally still HT, steep angles, short to mid travel fork.
