Is it possible?

I've just bought a 1997 Specialized Ground Control A1 PRO which I picked up for £150 at a local cycle shop and the bike is like new with hardly any scratches or marks on the frame. The bike looks like it has only been used a few times. My question is would it be possible to transfer the disc brakes from my old and knackered 2005 Scott Voltage Yz3 onto the Specialized A1 Pro. If so does anyone know of a shop in Norwich that would be able to do this for me. Or is there anyone who lives in Norwich or the surrounding area who would be prepared to give me a hand.

Does the Specialzed frame have disc mounts, if yes, transfering shouldn't be too much of an issue, if no, unless you can find an adaptor, would be easier to either get some Magura HS brakes, or leave with V brakes, the same goes for the fork.

If you do have the frame / fork mounts, you may need to look at post / IS adaptors for the brakes to fit, also, what shifters does the Specialzed have, if seperate brake lever & gears, not an issue, if STIs, you will need different gear pods.

Some more details of both bikes would be useful. Photos?

Here's a pic of my bike sorry about the quality as it was taken on my HTC phone.

Not possible*

No disc mounts on the frame or the forks (that I can see from that pic, the pic needs to be taken from the other side to confirm)

No disc mounts on the wheels either

Can't see what shifters the bike has, another pic from the front end will help decide if you'd need new shifters

*unless you get new forks and can find a disc brake adaptor that will work on that frame, and you get new wheels.

But it will cost a fair bit to make it disc compatible, personally I see no point in going for discs on this bike

Thanks for the help Andy. Looks like I'll be selling my old Scott Vantage Yz3 2005 for spare parts as I can't transfer anything over.

if you are lucky you may be able to find a specialized shark fin adaptor (there was one for sale on here recently)

you can run it with discs, but as has been said is it cost effective to do so ?
i was pretty lucky with finding a sharkfin for mine, but also had the wheels, forks & discs.

take a gander at my slightly later GC FSR in my sig ;)

Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to get the Scott repaired and use that for work and use the Spesh for offroad playtime and going on weekend cycle rides so not as bothered about it having V Brakes. Can this thread be closed now please.
