I had an interview on Wednesday, and it went appallingly, from both sides of the table, if I'm honest. I'm not the least bit hopeful of this particular application going any further, but........

I have a job interview today, for a different company, doing something that I have an outside interest in, as well as it being the next step in my career.

I really don't wanna screw this one up........ :D

Any advice, other than the usual 'be yourself' nonsense...

Good luck!

Best bit of advice I can offer is to do some research on the company and think of some good reasons why you want to work for them.....

Basically you need to kiss ass if you want the job!

yep, research complete. Working on reasons, and just formulating a plan to make me the best candidate..

Cheers

These days I approach interviews with a different mindset (although a good few years since I've needed to bother considering them). My mindset now is: 'I could be an asset to you. Why should I let myself be employed by you and do I really want to work here?'

Interviews should be two way things - try and forget the nerves thing. You need to see if it's the right place for you as well; after all you'll spend the vast majority of your week there (presumably). :)

Funny thing is, I never get nervous in a conventional sense, prior to interview, but I guess it manifests itself in me in other ways, like mind-blanks, during questioning.

I always strive to be engaging, and add a little humour into things (if appropriate) and ask intelligent, well constructed questions.

Its YOU they are interviewing. Get the basics about you your skills experience etc and dont fill your head with too much about the company - i have gone into interviews a jibbering wreck with my head full of acronyms, agm info, share prices etc and not even needed it :D

The basics, arrive early plan for roadworks etc, look smart etc etc all obvious stuff.

And its a 2 way thing, do you want to work for them :P

And i have had many interviews over the last few months and i find that some people just dont know how to interview  :?

Not even offering a glass of water, and one where they asked me if i had any Science background, they had my CV in from of them and i have a degree in Environmental Protection and have worked as a Hydrologist.

The guy on Weds was like that, in that he'd ask me a question and then spend the time looking out the window or playing with his iphone..

..and he was just basically recalcitrant to all my answers and just being bloody awkward..

That just rude :x

I think that now i am over 40 and a bit of a grump - i would have said something really sarcastic and walked out :D

Unless it was to test you.

I find that if i dont get offered a glass of water it puts me in a mood, a sip of water can calm you and give you time to formulate an answer.

I had an interview many years ago where one of the panel was about to go on maternity leave - all through the interview she kept rubbing her "bump", which I found a bit off-putting. Still, could have been worse, at least she didn't go into labour mid-interview!
