I have only been able to ride twice in the last 6 months due to injuries - one bike related, one not, and am looking at missing at least another 2/3 months.
Now I've got the time you'd imagine I'd have plenty of time to finish off projects or work on current rides, but try as I might I can't seem to muster up the enthusiasm.

I've realised that it's the enjoyment of riding that fuels my enjoyment of working on bikes and not just a love of bikes as machines.

Perhaps it's just the depression of enforced inactivity, but it's made me think.

What are other people's priorities, riding or renovating/building?
 
i like both but when i am off the bike for whatever reason i lose the enthusiasm to build aswel, it's like rubbing salt in the wound of not being able to ride.

hope you get sorted soon :)
 
cycling is my main point of exercise now, even over walking....as basic as that is, i work from a van so never go far on foot unless im at the girlfriends walking the dogs once or twice on a weekend if im lucky.

hence i have cycled with broken ribs and wrist this year....one handed for weeks at a time, thats how i roll :lol:

what kind of injury do you have?


i done a 73 mile charity ride last year 2 weeks after slipping a disc in my back.....wasnt pretty....just stupid.
 
Just recovered from 2 grade 3 torn knee ligaments following a bike fall, and then aggravated a long-standing back injury on a holiday in the Lake District, which from previous experience takes a couple of months to heal. :cry:
 
I hadn't owned a bike for several years until recently, currently my interest is in getting the thing ridable - however I have been on a bit of a fitness drive (weights) since the end of last year, so I am looking forward to doing some cardio work on the bike - especially as my dad is quite into his road riding.

I totally understand the feeling though, it's not an easy thing to over come. Is there another form of exercise you could take up for a couple of months, might help motivate you a little - swimming or something.
 
As someone who has been affected by illness for some while I can sympathise with your dilemma. I find wrenching very theraputic despite the problems with my hands, it helps. Riding is very hard at the present time but when I am doing it I get a real buzz which lasts for a few hours afterwards. They say the hardest part of a ride is getting out the door. Have to agree.
